Top 4 Books to Take on Your 2024 Travels

I wanted to think outside the box in suggesting this 2024 top 4 books reading list for your travels so there’s something for everyone. During your travels is a great time to read. After you finish exploring and want to unwind it is a low key way to end a fun day. Here are my top 4 books.

The Puma Years is a fascinating detailed account of a group of 20 somethings volunteers who make incredible sacrifices in their commitment to activism. The writer and activist talks about her journey when she leaves her job to go to Bolivia. This journey took her to a wildlife sanctuary where she developed a deep connection with a Puma they called Wayra. They lived under difficult conditions in the jungle where resources were scarce. All you had was what you could fit in your backpack.

This particular way of life just drew these people in to the point where they didn’t want to return to the comforts of home. There is a focus on the pet trade which is illegal, volunteers committed to protecting nature and its wildlife. An absolutely beautiful memoir that makes you rethink your priorities, find purpose and see things from an entirely new perspective. A must read that is very different from anything I have ever read or the other recommendations on my reading list.

A Light Read

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein is something you can finish in a long weekend. The main character sharing his story is Enzo a fun loving and sweet dog that captures your heart, makes you laugh and makes you cry. Enzo teaches us a great lesson in compassion, love and life from a unique perspective. I can also relate because of the dynamic between Enzo and his owner who is of course his best friend. A beautifully written story that I have already read twice, once to my niece who was in awe.

Historical Fiction

The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure is definitely a favorite. It takes place in Paris during World War II. The main character utilizes his architectural skills to save lives. It is definitely a nail biting and engaging story about heroism, the selfless lengths one man will go through to save the lives of strangers. From start to finish, I was totally invested in this spell binding story. It definitely makes you think and is a great option for book club.

National Best Seller

The Space Between Us by Thrity Umrigar was nominated for multiple awards and the author is widely recognized for a number of her brilliant works. The story takes place in India and follows two women one of modest means and one of considerable wealth. It focuses on the different struggles facing those of different means. There is a very intriguing cultural element and the story line will really tug at your emotions. These two women couldn’t be more different but there are bonds that connect them that go beyond class | casts. I read the book many years ago and it still is one of my favorites. Furthermore, I am fascinated by different cultures, which brings about different perspectives and an appreciation for the similarities that bind us when it comes to love, life, our struggles and hope.

I hope you check out one of my recommended top 4 books and enjoy the journey it takes you on. Take a look at Nature Mystique Retreat for your next vacation getaway.
