Hocking Hills Ohio is famous for its breathtaking caves, waterfalls, and hiking trails. Millions of visitors explore Old Man’s Cave, Ash Cave, and Cedar Falls every year. Beyond these well-known wonders, the area is full of hidden gems that many people just don’t know about. If you’re looking to experience something new and off the beaten path perhaps, here are some best kept secret hidden gems in or near the Hocking Hills area.

Butterfly Ridge Butterfly Conservation

Open from April until October, this is a seasonal gem must visit. This property is a beautiful butterfly conservation center that has been owned by the same family for over a century. The trail is approximately 1 mile, there are picnic areas and benches to relax and enjoy nature. This special garden is open to the public generally from April to October, definitely a special place to visit and pet friendly too.

Movie 10 & Fun Barn Arcade

Movie 10 & Fun Barn Arcade has vintage arcades, games like skee-ball, $5 movie tickets and more. This place makes you feel like a kid again. My favorite is the vintage Ms. Packman arcade game but there’s plenty to entertain you and lots of snacks for purchase while you are rediscovering the simple joys in life. You can spend the entire day here.

Stay At a Pet Friendly Hobbit Inspired Cabin

Only a few miles from Hocking Hills State Park, you can stay in a hobbit inspired cabin full of fairytale magic and wonder. Nature Mystique Retreat offers a whimsical charm that just fits perfectly with the area of Hocking Hills. Why stay in traditional lodging accommodations when you can experience a one of a kind destination. Surrounded by over 11 acres of nature and equipped with luxury accommodations, you won’t be disappointed with this hidden gem where you can choose from hobbit inspired cabins or exotic Moroccan adobe cabins right in the heart of Hocking Hills.

Discover the Hidden Gems Waterfalls

There are smaller, hidden hiking trails worth exploring. Robinson Falls is a tucked away waterfall in Boch Hollow State Nature Preserve. Unlike the more popular waterfalls, this one does in fact requires a permit to visit, but definitely worth a visit to capture this hidden gem. Such an enchanting place to see and enjoy. A great spot to take amazing photos and video.

These tours take you to historic buildings and eerie locations while guides share local ghost legends and haunted tales.
